Or does its <strong>bitul <\/strong>before Pesa\u1e25 mean that it cannot be <strong>\u1e25ozer ve-ne\u2019or<\/strong>? For example, a crumb of <strong>\u1e25ametz<\/strong> that falls into a large dish of cooked meat before Pesa\u1e25 is obviously <strong>batel<\/strong>, and this food may even be consumed after midday on the 14th of Nisan. The question is whether it is still permissible to eat it after Pesa\u1e25 begins.<\/p>\n<p>Some <strong>poskim<\/strong> rule that if <strong>\u1e25ametz<\/strong> was <strong>batel be-shishim<\/strong> before Pesa\u1e25, it is considered completely eliminated, and it cannot be <strong>\u1e25ozer ve-ne\u2019or<\/strong> on Pesa\u1e25<strong>. <\/strong>Therefore, the entire mixture is permitted for consumption (Rosh, <strong>Smag<\/strong>, <strong>Tur<\/strong>, and others). Other <strong>poskim<\/strong> say that the annulment that takes place before Pesa\u1e25 is not effective; as soon as Pesa\u1e25 begins the <strong>\u1e25ametz<\/strong> reawakens, and the entire mixture is rendered forbidden (Rambam, Rashba).<\/p>\n<p>This question has important implications for the status of <strong>matzot<\/strong>. Occasionally, some water drips on a mound of wheat grains, causing a few of the grains to leaven. It is very difficult to find these grains and remove them from the pile, but it is clear that the kosher wheat grains that did not become <strong>\u1e25ametz<\/strong> outnumber the leavened grains by more than sixty-to-one. According to the view that <strong>\u1e25ametz<\/strong> is <strong>\u1e25ozer ve-ne\u2019or<\/strong>, if all the wheat is milled together and <strong>matzot<\/strong> are baked from its flour, it will be forbidden to eat them on Pesa\u1e25, because the drop of <strong>\u1e25ametz<\/strong> in it renders all of the <strong>matzot<\/strong> forbidden. It is therefore important to make sure that there is not even a single <strong>\u1e25ametz <\/strong>grain in the wheat from which matza is made. But according to the opinion that <strong>\u1e25ametz<\/strong> nullified before Pesa\u1e25 is not <strong>\u1e25ozer ve-ne\u2019or<\/strong>, the <strong>matzot<\/strong> are kosher for Pesa\u1e25.
