{"id":5826,"date":"2010-02-02T10:00:25","date_gmt":"2010-02-02T08:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ph.yhb.org.il\/en\/?p=5826"},"modified":"2010-02-02T10:00:25","modified_gmt":"2010-02-02T08:00:25","slug":"05-02-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ph.yhb.org.il\/en\/05-02-10\/","title":{"rendered":"10 \u2013 Specific Laws Regarding the Mitzvah of Counting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If someone asks his friend, at a time when it is permissible to count, \u201cWhat is today\u2019s Omer count?\u201d the friend should not answer, \u201cToday is day such-and-such in the Omer,\u201d unless he has already counted with a blessing.\u00a0 After all, if he says this, he will already fulfill his obligation to count and will be unable to recite a blessing over that day\u2019s count.\u00a0 Rather, one should answer, \u201cYesterday was day such-and-such in the Omer\u201d (<i>Sh.A.<\/i> 489:4).<\/p>\n<p>If one tells his friend which day it is in the Omer while having specific intent not to fulfill his obligation, he may count later on with a blessing.\u00a0 If the day\u2019s count is made up of both days and weeks [i.e., after day six] and one tells his friend the number of days [without mentioning the weeks], he may count later on, <i>be\u2019di\u2019avad<\/i>, with a blessing.\u00a0 Since he did not count in the normal fashion, mentioning both the days and the weeks, he has made it clear that he did not intend on discharging his obligation of the mitzvah with this response (<i>M.B.<\/i> 489:22).<\/p>\n<p>Before reciting the blessing, one should remind himself mentally what day it is in the Omer (see <i>Sh.A.<\/i> 489:6, <i>Sha\u2019ar HaTziyun<\/i> 37).\u00a0 If someone in unsure whether today is day nine or ten [for example], and there is no one available to ask, he should say both numbers, and thus fulfill his obligation either way.\u00a0 However, the <i>poskim<\/i> debate whether or not to recite the blessing [in such a case].\u00a0 Some say that one may recite a blessing only over a clear and definite count.\u00a0 Others maintain that one may recite a blessing over a doubtful count, because the person knows for sure that one of the numbers is correct (see <i>Piskei Teshuvot<\/i> 489:17).\u00a0 In practice, the blessing should be omitted since there is a doubt regarding the matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If someone asks his friend, at a time when it is permissible to count, \u201cWhat is today\u2019s Omer count?\u201d the friend should not answer, \u201cToday is day such-and-such in the Omer,\u201d unless he has already counted with a blessing.\u00a0 After all, if he says this, he will already fulfill his obligation to count and will [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[43],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5826","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-05-02"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
