{"id":6001,"date":"2010-01-02T10:00:58","date_gmt":"2010-01-02T08:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ph.yhb.org.il\/en\/?p=6001"},"modified":"2018-05-24T11:00:07","modified_gmt":"2018-05-24T08:00:07","slug":"02-02-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ph.yhb.org.il\/en\/02-02-10\/","title":{"rendered":"10 &#8211; A Diminished Minyan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the recital of <i>Kaddish<\/i> in a <i>minyan<\/i> has begun, and a few men leave in the middle, if most of the <i>minyan<\/i> remains (at least six including the <i>chazan<\/i>) the <i>Kaddish<\/i> may be completed. This rule applies to all prayers that require a <i>minyan<\/i>; if they started to pray with ten people and most of the <i>minyan<\/i> remained, they conclude the prayer that they started, but do not begin a new prayer (<i>Shulchan Aruch<\/i> 55:2). It is prohibited to walk out and disband the <i>minyan<\/i> in the middle of matters of sanctity. However, in situations in which it is necessary, one is permitted to leave before the start of the next part of the prayers.<\/p>\n<p>If a <i>minyan<\/i> began <i>Chazarat HaShatz<\/i>, and part of the <i>minyan<\/i> left but most remained, those remaining may say <i>Kedushah<\/i> and conclude the repetition of the <i>Amidah<\/i>. However, they do not say <i>Birkat Kohanim<\/i> because it is a mitzvah by itself. Concerning <i>Kaddish Titkabal<\/i> after the prayer service, the <i>poskim<\/i> are divided. The Sephardic custom is not to recite it since it is considered to be the start of a new prayer. According to the Ashkenazic custom it is considered to be the end of the prayer service because in it, we ask that our prayers be accepted. Therefore, in <i>Shacharit<\/i> and <i>Minchah<\/i>, if there are ten men at the start of <i>Chazarat HaShatz<\/i>, they may recite <i>Kaddish Titkabal<\/i>. (In <i>Shacharit<\/i> they also recite the Half <i>Kaddish<\/i> before <i>Ashrei<\/i>.) In <i>Ma\u2019ariv<\/i>, if there is a <i>minyan<\/i> at the beginning of the silent <i>Shemoneh Esrei<\/i> and six men remain, they recite <i>Kaddish Titkabal<\/i> (<i>Shulchan Aruch<\/i> 55:3; <i>Mishnah Berurah<\/i> there).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When the recital of Kaddish in a minyan has begun, and a few men leave in the middle, if most of the minyan remains (at least six including the chazan) the Kaddish may be completed.
