{"id":6304,"date":"2010-01-17T12:00:27","date_gmt":"2010-01-17T10:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ph.yhb.org.il\/en\/?p=6304"},"modified":"2018-05-24T11:45:41","modified_gmt":"2018-05-24T08:45:41","slug":"02-17-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ph.yhb.org.il\/en\/02-17-12\/","title":{"rendered":"12 &#8211; The Conclusion of the Amidah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In reciting the verse, \u201c<i>Yih\u2019yu l\u2019ratzon<\/i>\u2026,\u201d (\u201cMay the expressions of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart find favor before You, Hashem, my Rock, and my Redeemer\u201d), which is said after the blessing for <i>shalom<\/i>, we end the main part of the <i>Amidah<\/i>. Therefore, if one hears <i>Kaddish<\/i> or <i>Kedushah <\/i>while he is between the <i>berachah<\/i> and that verse, he may not answer, because that verse is part of the <i>Amidah<\/i> (<i>Shulchan Aruch<\/i> and <i>Rama<\/i> 122:1).<\/p>\n<p>However, from the beginning of <i>Elokai netzor<\/i> until the second time <i>Yih\u2019yu l\u2019ratzon<\/i> is recited, one is permitted to respond to <i>Kaddish<\/i>, <i>Kedushah<\/i>, <i>Barchu<\/i>, and <i>Modim<\/i> \u2013 like the law regarding one who is in the middle of <i>Birkot Keriat Shema<\/i> \u2013 because the person praying has already concluded the main part of the <i>Amidah<\/i>. Nevertheless, since he did not entirely finish the prayer, he is prohibited from answering <i>Amen<\/i> after <i>berachot<\/i> or anything similar (<i>Shulchan Aruch<\/i> there; and see <i>Hilchot Birkot Keriat Shema<\/i> 16:5).<\/p>\n<p>As we have learned, it is in this section that one may extend his supplication and requests as much as he desires, like it is said about Rabbi Akiva, that when he would pray individually he would prolong his prayer with supplications following the <i>Amidah<\/i> (see <i>Berachot<\/i> 31a).<sup><a id=\"_te02ftnref17_8\" class=\"aup1\" href=\"#_te02ftn17_8\">[8]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Upon the conclusion of the prayers of supplication, the person praying recites <i>Yih\u2019yu l\u2019ratzon<\/i> again and takes three steps backwards. If he cannot step backwards because the person behind him is still praying, even though he has not yet departed from the <i>Amidah<\/i>, he may respond aloud to any matter of sanctity, even \u201c<i>Baruch Hu u\u2019varuch Shemo<\/i>,\u201d since he already finished the supplications after the <i>Amidah<\/i>. Similarly, he is permitted to continue praying, reciting <i>Ashrei<\/i> and <i>Aleinu L\u2019Shabe\u2019ach<\/i>, or he may recite Psalms or learn Torah (see further in this chapter, halachah 20).<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr size=\"1\" \/>\n<div><a id=\"_te02ftn17_8\" href=\"#_te02ftnref17_8\">[8]<\/a>.\u00a0According to the <i>Gra<\/i>, <i>Yih\u2019yu l\u2019ratzon<\/i> is not recited before <i>Elokai netzor<\/i>, so that all the prayers of supplication will be included in the <i>Amidah<\/i>, and in his opinion, therefore, we do not respond to <i>Kaddish<\/i> and <i>Kedushah<\/i> there. However, according to the <i>Rama<\/i>, even when it is not customary to recite <i>Yih\u2019yu l\u2019ratzon<\/i> before <i>Elokai netzor<\/i>, we do, indeed, respond to <i>Kaddish<\/i> and <i>Kedushah<\/i> in the prayers of supplication. When we do say <i>Yih\u2019yu l\u2019ratzon<\/i> before the prayers of supplication, we do not respond to <i>Kaddish<\/i> and <i>Kedushah<\/i> before the verse, although we do answer after it. The <i>Mishnah Berurah<\/i> 122:3 writes that it is good to say <i>Yih\u2019yu l\u2019ratzon<\/i> before <i>Elokai netzor<\/i> and after it, and that is the <i>minhag<\/i>.
