The Various Kinds of Kaddish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are four versions of <em>Kaddish<\/em>, which we will identify by name. 1)<strong> Half-<em>Kaddish <\/em><\/strong>corresponds to the main section of <em>Kaddish<\/em>. It is called Half-<em>Kaddish<\/em> to distinguish it from the other <em>Kaddishim<\/em> which contain further additions. In any part of prayer in which <em>Kaddish<\/em> must be said, but there should not be prolonged interruption, Half-<em>Kaddish<\/em> is recited; 2) <strong><em>Kaddish Shalem <\/em><\/strong>(Full-<em>Kaddish <\/em>or <em>Kaddish Yehei Shelama<\/em>) is recited after saying verses from Tanakh and contains an added request for peace and good life for us and all Israel. It concludes: \u201c<em>Oseh shalom bi-mromav, Hu <\/em>(<em>be-ra\u0125amav<\/em>)<em> ya\u2019aseh shalom aleinu ve-al kol (amo) Yisrael ve-imru: <\/em>Amen\u201d (\u201cMay He Who makes peace in His high places make peace (in His mercy) for us and all of (His nation) Israel \u2013 and say: Amen\u201d). Since this <em>Kaddish<\/em> is usually recited by mourners, it is also called <em>Kaddish Yatom<\/em> (Mourner\u2019s <em>Kaddish<\/em>); 3) <strong><em>Kaddish Titkabel <\/em><\/strong>is recited by the <em>\u0125azan<\/em> after the conclusion of the <em>Amida<\/em>. It is identical to <em>Kaddish Shalem<\/em> but for a single additional line that asks for our prayers be accepted; 4) <strong><em>Kaddish De-rabanan <\/em><\/strong>is recited after the study of rabbinic teachings. It too is identical to <em>Kaddish<\/em> <em>Shalem<\/em> but with the addition of a prayer that those who study Torah be granted long, good lives.<\/p>\n<p>The Sages ordained the recitation of <em>Kaddish<\/em> at the conclusion of each section of communal prayer. <em>Kaddish De-rabanan<\/em> is recited after <em>Korbanot,<\/em>; Half-<em>Kaddish<\/em> after <em>Pesukei De-zimra<\/em>; Half-<em>Kaddish<\/em> after <em>Ta\u0125anun<\/em>; On Mondays and Thursdays, an additional Half-<em>Kaddish<\/em> is recited after Torah reading; <em>Kaddish Titkabal<\/em> is recited after <em>Kedusha De-sidra<\/em>; <em>Kaddish Shalem <\/em>is recited after <em>Shir shel Yom<\/em>; and <em>Kaddish De-rabanan<\/em> \u00a0is recited after <em>Pitum Ha-ketoret<\/em> (<em>Shibolei Ha-leket<\/em> \u00a78). The recitation of <em>Kaddish<\/em> concludes and elevates each section of the prayer service toward the ultimate objective \u2013 God\u2019s honor \u2013 so that we may begin the next section.<\/p>\n<p>The general practice is that mourners recite <em>Kaddish Shalem<\/em> after the recitation of verses from Tanakh and <em>Kaddish De-rabanan<\/em> after studying rabbinic works, since the departed souls benefits from <em>Kaddish<\/em> recited for the purpose of its elevation (see below, sections 18-19). When no mourner is present, one who lost a parent recites the <em>Kaddish<\/em>.
