The <em>Musaf Amida<\/em> and <em>Ve-te\u2019erav<\/em>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The three prayer services that we recite each day correspond to the three patriarchs as well as to the daily sacrifices in the Temple. <em>Sha\u1e25arit<\/em> and <em>Min\u1e25a <\/em>correspond to the two daily (<em>tamid<\/em>) offerings in the morning and afternoon, respectively, and <em>Ma\u2019ariv<\/em> corresponds to the nighttime burning of fats and limbs on the altar (<em>Berakhot<\/em> 26b; <em>Peninei Halakha: Prayer<\/em> 1:7). The Sages added the <em>Musaf<\/em> prayer \u2013 to be recited on Shabbat, Yom Tov, <em>\u1e24ol Ha-mo\u2019ed<\/em>, and Rosh \u1e24odesh \u2013 corresponding to the additional (<em>musaf<\/em>) offerings sacrificed then.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Musaf<\/em> <em>Amida<\/em> of Yom Tov (except Rosh Ha-shana) contains seven <em>berakhot<\/em>. The first three are similar to those of every <em>Amida<\/em>, while the middle <em>berakha<\/em> relates to the festival offerings. We begin by stating that on account of our sins we were exiled from our Land, and our Temple was destroyed, so we are unable to bring sacrifices as we once did. We then plead:<\/p>\n<p>Bring back our scattered ones from among the nations\u2026. Lead us to Zion, Your city, in jubilation, and to Jerusalem, home of Your Temple, with everlasting joy. There we will prepare for You our obligatory offerings; the regular daily offerings in their order and the additional offerings according to their law.<\/p>\n<p>We then mention the name of the festival. Ashkenazim also recite verses pertinent to the <em>musaf<\/em> sacrifice. We go on to pray that the Temple be rebuilt and that we be privileged to fulfill the mitzva of making a pilgrimage to the Temple three times a year for the festivals. We conclude with the prayer of <em>Ve-hasi\u2019enu<\/em>, as we do at every Yom Tov <em>Amida<\/em> (section 3 above).<sup><a href='#_te01ftn2_9' id='_te01ftnref2_9' class='aup1'>[9]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Following Ashkenazic custom, at the conclusion of the <em>Retzei<\/em> section about restoring the Temple service, the <em>\u1e25azan<\/em> adds the formulation that was said in the Temple: \u201cMay our entreaty be as pleasing to You as a burnt offering and sacrifice. Please, Compassionate One, in Your abounding mercy restore Your Presence to Zion, Your city, and the order of the Temple service to Jerusalem.\u201d The <em>\u1e25azan<\/em> concludes: \u201cBlessed are You, Lord, for You alone do we serve with reverence\u201d (<em>She-otkha levadkha be-yir\u2019a na\u2019avod<\/em>\u201d). Some follow the Vilna Gaon\u2019s practice and instead conclude the <em>berakha<\/em> in the usual way: \u201cBlessed are You, Lord, Who restores His presence to Zion.\u201d If no Kohanim are present, then <em>Ve-te\u2019erav<\/em> is omitted (MB 128:173).<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr size=\"1\" \/>\n<div>\n<a href='#_te01ftnref2_9' id='_te01ftn2_9'>[9]<\/a>. If one makes a mistake during <em>Musaf<\/em> and begins to recite the <em>berakhot<\/em> of the weekday <em>Amida <\/em>and then remembers the need to pray <em>Musaf<\/em>, some say that he should complete the <em>berakha<\/em> that he started.
