Si el \u00e1pice de la hoja superior se prolonga en una especie de punta, no se la considera parte de la hoja y aunque se chamusque o se corte, el lulav contin\u00faa siendo excelentemente apto (<em>kasher lamehadr\u00edn<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Un lulav cuya hoja superior termina en forma de zigzag, tal como ocurre a veces, es a priori apto.<\/p>\n<p>Un lulav al que se le secaron la mayor parte de sus hojas al grado de tornarse blancas y sin una pizca de verdor \u2013 se considera inv\u00e1lido (Shulj\u00e1n Aruj 645:5).<\/p>\n<p>La longitud del tallo o raquis del lulav debe ser de por lo menos cuatro palmos, que son unos 32 cm., y en caso de apremio 25.3 cm. Todo esto es a los efectos de cumplir con el requisito m\u00ednimo, pero la excelencia del lulav radica en que sea m\u00e1s alto de lo establecido (Magu\u00e9n Abraham 672:3).<\/p>\n<p>En las \u00faltimas generaciones surgi\u00f3 la interrogante respecto de la aptitud del lulav canario, que crece a partir de una variedad de palmera procedente de las Islas Canarias. La palma canaria se diferencia de los dem\u00e1s tipos de palmera en una serie de detalles; sus hojas son m\u00e1s cortas, m\u00e1s blandas y tupidas, su tallo o raquis es m\u00e1s blando y tiende a curvarse hacia el lado al que se lo incline, su color es de un verde m\u00e1s intenso y sus frutos carecen de sabor.<\/p>\n<p>Quienes lo encuentran apto entienden que por cuanto que se trata de una palmera que produce d\u00e1tiles, a pesar de todas sus diferencias es kasher (Tzitz Eliezer 8:22, Rab\u00ed Shlom\u00f3 Zalman Auerbach). Otros, consideran que por cuanto que sus frutos no son tan aptos para ser ingeridos y se diferencia de la palma com\u00fan en numerosos detalles, no se trata de \u201cramas de palmera\u201d (Igrot Mosh\u00e9 Oraj Ja\u00edm 4:123). En la pr\u00e1ctica, si bien la l\u00ednea de razonamiento de quienes adoptan la actitud flexible es aceptable, puesto que hay variedades de palmera que se asemejan a la canaria, de todas maneras, dado que se trata de un tema de debate, corresponde evitar tomar el lulav canario.
