Premi\u00e8rement, les quatre esp\u00e8ces doivent \u00eatre celles-l\u00e0 m\u00eames que la Torah a prescrites, et non d\u2019autres esp\u00e8ces. Le \u00ab\u00a0fruit d\u2019arbre splendide\u00a0\u00bb (<em>peri \u2018ets hadar<\/em>) est le c\u00e9drat (<em>\u00e9trog<\/em>) et un non un citron\u00a0; m\u00eame un c\u00e9drat greff\u00e9 est invalide pour la mitsva (cf. ci-apr\u00e8s, \u00a7 10). Les rameaux de l\u2019arbre feuillu (<em>\u2018anaf \u2018ets \u2018avot<\/em>) sont le myrte (<em>hadas<\/em>) dont les feuilles sont tripl\u00e9es, et non le myrte irr\u00e9gulier (<em>hadas chot\u00e9<\/em>). De m\u00eame, il faut prendre des branches de saule (<em>\u2018arava<\/em>) et non de peuplier (<em>tsaftsafa<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Seconde cause d\u2019invalidit\u00e9\u00a0: lorsque la forme du v\u00e9g\u00e9tal en question diff\u00e8re de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce, telle qu\u2019elle fut cr\u00e9\u00e9e. Par exemple, une branche de palmier dont les feuilles n\u2019ont pouss\u00e9 que d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9, un myrte ou une branche de saule qui a perdu la majorit\u00e9 de ses feuilles.<\/p>\n<p>Troisi\u00e8me cause\u00a0d\u2019invalidit\u00e9\u00a0: d\u00e8s lors que le v\u00e9g\u00e9tal est trop petit, il ne m\u00e9rite pas le nom de \u00ab\u00a0fruit de l\u2019arbre splendide\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0palmes de dattier\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0rameaux de l\u2019arbre feuillu\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0saules de ruisseau\u00a0\u00bb (comme nous le verrons ci-apr\u00e8s, \u00a7 7, 8, 9, 12). Ces trois premiers d\u00e9fauts sont cause d\u2019invalidit\u00e9 pendant les sept jours de la f\u00eate.<\/p>\n<p>Quatri\u00e8me cause\u00a0: quand le v\u00e9g\u00e9tal n\u2019est pas <strong><em>hadar<\/em><\/strong> (litt. \u00ab\u00a0splendide\u00a0\u00bb), c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire que, sans avoir tellement chang\u00e9, il a perdu sa belle forme naturelle\u00a0; c\u2019est le cas, par exemple, lorsqu\u2019il a enti\u00e8rement s\u00e9ch\u00e9. Selon la majorit\u00e9 des d\u00e9cisionnaires, le v\u00e9g\u00e9tal invalid\u00e9 au titre de <em>hadar <\/em>ne l\u2019est que le premier jour (Ma\u00efmonide, Na\u2019hmanide). D\u2019autres estiment que ce v\u00e9g\u00e9tal est invalide pendant l\u2019ensemble des sept jours (Roch).<\/p>\n<p>Cinqui\u00e8me cause\u00a0: le v\u00e9g\u00e9tal est frapp\u00e9 d\u2019un <em>manque<\/em> (<strong><em>\u2018hasser<\/em><\/strong>). Pour le c\u00e9drat, c\u2019est le cas lorsqu\u2019il manque une partie de sa chair (cf. ci-apr\u00e8s, \u00a7 11)\u00a0; pour le <em>loulav<\/em>, le cas est celui o\u00f9 les deux parties de sa tige centrale (<em>tiomet<\/em>) se sont s\u00e9par\u00e9es (\u00a7 6). Le manque est cause d\u2019invalidit\u00e9 le premier jour, o\u00f9 les esp\u00e8ces doivent \u00eatre int\u00e8gres (<em>tamim<\/em>, plur. <em>temimim<\/em>), non les autres jours (cf. <em>Souka<\/em> 34b\u00a0; <em>Tossephot<\/em>, passage commen\u00e7ant par <em>Ch\u00e9teh\u00e9\u00a0<\/em>; Rachi sur 36b, passage commen\u00e7ant par <em>Oumachninan<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Il ressort de tout cela que, pour que l\u2019une des esp\u00e8ces soit invalid\u00e9e, il faut qu\u2019elle subisse un changement significatif. Par cons\u00e9quent, la tension qui habite parfois ceux qui choisissent lesdites esp\u00e8ces n\u2019a pas lieu d\u2019\u00eatre. Certes, dans les paragraphes suivants, nous verrons plus largement les diff\u00e9rents d\u00e9fauts qui invalident les quatre esp\u00e8ces\u00a0; mais il est en cela question de cas tr\u00e8s rares. Cependant, bien qu\u2019une majorit\u00e9 significative des esp\u00e8ces que l\u2019on trouve sur le march\u00e9 soient cach\u00e8res, les communaut\u00e9s d\u2019Isra\u00ebl ont pris coutume d\u2019apporter \u00e0 la mitsva un suppl\u00e9ment de perfection, et de choisir de beaux v\u00e9g\u00e9taux, car il est dit\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0C\u2019est mon Dieu, et je le magnifierai<sup><a id=\"_te01ftnref4_d\" class=\"aup1\" href=\"#_te01ftn4_d\">[d]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0\u00bb (Ex 15, 2), ce que nos sages commentent\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Pare-toi devant Lui, dans la pratique des commandements. Fais en son honneur une belle souka, [choisis] un beau <em>loulav<\/em>\u2026\u00a0\u00bb (<em>Chabbat <\/em>133b\u00a0; cf. ci-apr\u00e8s, \u00a7 14). Mais il n\u2019est pas n\u00e9cessaire d\u2019\u00eatre stress\u00e9 pour autant.<\/p>\n<p>En cas de n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 pressante, lorsqu\u2019il n\u2019y a aucune possibilit\u00e9 de trouver un exemplaire cach\u00e8re d\u2019une des esp\u00e8ces, on peut accomplir la mitsva avec un exemplaire invalid\u00e9 au titre de <em>hadar <\/em>(la \u00ab\u00a0splendeur\u00a0\u00bb) ou de <em>\u2018hasser<\/em> (le \u00ab manque\u00a0\u00bb) \u2013 c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire les quatri\u00e8me et cinqui\u00e8me cas d\u2019invalidit\u00e9 susmentionn\u00e9s\u00a0; par exemple, avec un <em>loulav<\/em> sec, ou dont la tige centrale s\u2019est ouverte. Selon la majorit\u00e9 des d\u00e9cisionnaires, on r\u00e9cite m\u00eame la b\u00e9n\u00e9diction pour le balancement de ces quatre esp\u00e8ces\u00a0; d\u2019autres estiment, en revanche, qu\u2019on ne dit pas la b\u00e9n\u00e9diction en ce cas<sup><a id=\"_te01ftnref4_2\" class=\"aup1\" href=\"#_te01ftn4_2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>En plus des cinq causes d\u2019invalidit\u00e9 frappant les quatre esp\u00e8ces en elles-m\u00eames, on ne s\u2019acquitte point de son obligation avec un v\u00e9g\u00e9tal vol\u00e9\u00a0; et le premier jour, m\u00eame un v\u00e9g\u00e9tal emprunt\u00e9 est invalide (comme nous le verrons au paragraphe 13). De m\u00eame, ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019idol\u00e2trie est invalide pour la mitsva (<em>Choul\u2019han \u2018Aroukh<\/em> 649, 3).<\/p>\n<div>\n<hr size=\"1\" \/>\n<div><a id=\"_te01ftn4_d\" href=\"#_te01ftnref4_d\">[d]<\/a>. Litt\u00e9ralement \u00ab\u00a0je l\u2019embellirai\u00a0\u00bb.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"_te01ftn4_2\" href=\"#_te01ftnref4_2\">[2]<\/a>. <em>Souka<\/em> 31a\u00a0: Rabbi Yehouda a dit\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Il arriva que des citadins firent h\u00e9riter \u00e0 leurs enfants leur <em>loulav<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb (d\u2019o\u00f9 il suit qu\u2019un <em>loulav<\/em> sec est cach\u00e8re). Les \u2018Hakhamim (la communaut\u00e9 des sages) lui ont r\u00e9pondu\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Un cas de n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 pressante n\u2019est pas une preuve.\u00a0\u00bb Nous voyons donc que les \u2018Hakhamim eux-m\u00eames s\u2019accordent \u00e0 dire que, en cas de n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 pressante (<em>che\u2019at had\u2019haq<\/em>), on prend en effet un <em>loulav<\/em> sec. Selon le Raavad, on se servait d\u2019un <em>loulav <\/em>sec dans le seul but que la mitsva ne f\u00fbt pas oubli\u00e9e, mais on ne r\u00e9citait pas la b\u00e9n\u00e9diction sur un tel <em>loulav<\/em>. Le <em>Choul\u2019han \u2018Aroukh<\/em> 649, 6 tient compte de son avis. Selon Ma\u00efmonide, sur un <em>loulav<\/em> sec, on dit la b\u00e9n\u00e9diction, mais non sur les autres cas d\u2019invalidit\u00e9. Mais selon une nette majorit\u00e9 de Richonim, en cas de n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 pressante, on dit la b\u00e9n\u00e9diction sur toutes les esp\u00e8ces invalid\u00e9es au titre de <em>hadar<\/em> et de <em>\u2018hasser<\/em>. Parmi eux\u00a0: Rabbi Yits\u2019haq ibn Ghiat, <em>Ma\u2019hzor <\/em>de Vitry 373, Rabb\u00e9nou Tam, Rid, <em>\u2018Itour<\/em>, <em>Manhig<\/em>, Raavia II 653, Roch (3, 14), <em>S\u00e9fer Mitsvot Gadol<\/em>, <em>Or Zaroua\u2019<\/em> et de nombreux autres.
